Import your bookmarks
Omamo reads the bookmarks file that every browser exports. It also reads the exports of popular tab and bookmark managers, and an Omamo export. You see every folder before anything moves, and each folder you keep becomes a collection.
1. Export your bookmarks
Section titled “1. Export your bookmarks”Pick the browser or app you use now.
Chrome
Section titled “Chrome”- Open the menu (the three dots), then Bookmarks and lists, then Bookmark manager.
- In the bookmark manager, open its menu (the three dots), then choose Export bookmarks.
- Save the file. Chrome names it like
bookmarks_11_5_26.html.
Microsoft Edge
Section titled “Microsoft Edge”- Open Settings and more (the three dots), then Favorites.
- In the favorites panel, open More options (the three dots), then choose Export favorites.
- Save the file. Edge names it like
favorites_11_5_26.html.
Firefox
Section titled “Firefox”- Open Bookmarks, then Manage bookmarks.
- In the Library window, open Import and Backup, then choose Export Bookmarks to HTML.
- Save the file. Firefox names it
bookmarks.html.
Safari on a Mac
Section titled “Safari on a Mac”- Open the File menu, then Export, then Bookmarks.
- Save the file. Safari names it
Safari Bookmarks.html.
Another tab or bookmark manager
Section titled “Another tab or bookmark manager”Look for Export in the app’s settings. Many apps export the same bookmarks file as the browsers, often called an HTML export. If the app offers a choice, pick that one. If Omamo does not read a file, the import says so before anything moves.
2. Import the file into Omamo
Section titled “2. Import the file into Omamo”- Open the space that the bookmarks go to.
- Open the space settings with the gear at the top of the sidebar.
- Under Your data, choose Import, then drop the file in, or pick it.
You need permission to add boards in the space. The owner, admins, and editors have it.
3. Pick what comes in
Section titled “3. Pick what comes in”Omamo shows every folder in the file, with a check box. Untick the folders that you do not want, then press Import.
- The import makes one new board.
- Each folder becomes a collection, named by its path, such as
Work / Reading. - Links that are in no folder go to a collection named Unsorted.
- Tags come in where the file has them, and notes come in from the apps that export them.
On the Free plan, the import checks that the folders you picked fit. If they do not fit, it says what to untick. Pro has no limits.
Take it back out
Section titled “Take it back out”Omamo exports any space, board, or collection at any time, on every plan. A JSON file imports back into Omamo with its notes, tags, and order. A CSV file opens in a spreadsheet. See the Your data part of the space settings.
